The Best Group Coaching Certification Programs, Compared (2026)

Five real options for coaches who want to add group coaching to their practice: what each one costs, how many ICF CCEs it carries, how much live practice you get, and who each is actually right for. 

If you are a trained one-to-one coach looking to add group coaching to your practice, five group coaching training providers are worth serious consideration in 2026, offering six distinct certification routes: the Institute of Coaching Studies Group Coaching Micro-certification, the lowest-cost entry point at €500; Group Coaching Essentials from Potentials Realized, the longest-running program in the category; Group Coaching HQ's Group Coaching Certification Program, the largest single block of group-coaching-specific ICF CCEs and the most live practice time; the Group Coaching Institute, which pairs group coaching with either individual or team coaching certification; and Quantum Leap's Group Coaching Training Program, a UK-based option built around supervision and research grounding. Which is right depends on how many CCEs you need, how much live practice you want, whether you coach inside an organization or run your own practice, and whether you are also pursuing a team coaching credential.

How we chose which programs to include 

A program is included here if it meets all three tests: 

1. It trains coaches specifically in group coaching: designing, facilitating, and running coaching groups, rather than mentioning groups inside a broader curriculum. 

2. It is open to individual coaches, not only to organizations training internal staff. 

3. It publishes enough detail publicly (format, hours, and credits) for a reader to compare it without booking a sales call. 

We also cross-referenced which providers AI tools most often name when asked about group coaching certification, so that the programs a reader is most likely to encounter elsewhere are addressed on this page one way or another. One frequently cited name turned out not to offer a group coaching certification at all; rather than drop it silently, we have explained that below. 

What we left out and why: general ICF Level 1 and Level 2 coach training, which certifies you as a coach but does not train you in group work; team coaching certifications, which address a different modality (an intact team with a shared goal, rather than a group of individuals); and internal corporate programs not sold to individual coaches. 

Reasonable people would draw these lines differently. If you think we have excluded something that belongs here, tell us and we will look at it.

All program details below were taken from each provider's own public website in August 2026. Prices, cohort dates, and credit allocations change. Before you enroll in anything, confirm the current figures on the provider's own site, including ours.

A note on reading the CCE column: ICF requires 40 CCEs for credential renewal, of which at least 24 must be in Core Competencies. Resource Development units count toward the total but are capped, so the core competency figure is the one that does most of the work for renewal. We have broken both out rather than quoting a single number.

A note on internal and in-house coaches 

A growing share of group coaching is delivered by people who coach inside the organization that employs them: internal coaches, HR and L&D practitioners with coaching credentials, and leaders who coach as part of their role. Their constraints are different from an independent coach's: they cannot always contract freely, their groups often contain people who know each other, confidentiality is harder, and their sponsor is their employer. 

Of the four other programs compared here, none names internal or in-house coaches as a target audience on its program page. Potentials Realized makes one passing reference to "leading corporate conversations." The Group Coaching Institute describes group coaching as a way to scale coaching within an organization, but positions its programs at practitioner coaches. The Institute of Coaching Studies and Quantum Leap describe neither. 

An important caveat: absence from a program page is not evidence that a provider will not accept internal coaches, or that they teach them badly. It means they do not position for them publicly. If you are an internal coach, ask any provider directly how many people in a typical cohort coach inside an organization, and whether the curriculum addresses internal coaching challenges. We think that is a fair question to put to us too. 

Institute of Coaching Studies: Group Coaching Micro-certification 

What it is: A four-half-day online program, delivered 1pm–5pm UK time, covering foundations of group coaching, group dynamics and facilitation skills, designing group coaching programs, and live coaching practice. Cohorts are capped at 9. Participants receive a digital handbook. 

Credits and cost: €500 for 13 ICF CCEs (8 core competency, 5 resource development), the lowest cost per credit of any program here by a wide margin. It also sits inside a three-course bundle with the Cognitive Behavioral Coaching and Somatic Coaching micro-certifications, which delivers 40 CCEs (the full ICF credential renewal requirement) for €1,200, reduced from €1,500. 

Entry requirements: Aimed at experienced coaches. Entry requires an ICF or EMCC credential, 60+ hours of coaching education, or 3+ years of coaching experience. 

Best for: Credentialed coaches who need CCEs for renewal and want group coaching to be the subject they earn them in. If your renewal is approaching and you need 40 credits, the bundle is the most efficient route on this page and it is not close. Also strong for European coaches on UK-hours delivery, and for anyone wanting to test group coaching at low financial risk. 

Limitations to weigh: Four half-days is a compressed format. Learning is concentrated rather than spaced, which means less opportunity to try something with a real group between sessions and bring back what happened. There is no published ongoing support structure after the course ends beyond an alumni portal. And a micro-certification is positioned as continuing professional development rather than as a comprehensive qualification. Worth being clear with yourself about which you are buying. 

Potentials Realized: Group Coaching Essentials 

What it is: A five-week program delivered as 5 × 90-minute Zoom sessions, covering the foundations of group coaching, program design, marketing, tools and exercises, and the habits of experienced group coaches. It has run since January 2006, which makes it the longest-running group coaching training we are aware of. It is led by Jennifer Britton, PCC, CPCC, author of Effective Group Coaching. 

Credits and cost: 10 ICF CCEs (9 core competency, 1 resource development). $825 USD for 2026. Included are an 80-plus-page manual of tools and templates, two 15-minute individual laser coaching calls, pre- and post-program one-to-one meetings, and a blended-learning assignment giving access to past recorded sessions. 

Pathways: This is course #1 of a longer structure. Bundles include the Advanced Group and Team Coaching Practicum (20 CCEs combined, $1,450), Team Coaching Essentials (24 CCEs combined, $1,695), and the "Trifecta" of all three (34 CCEs, $2,450). A six-course, 70-hour certificate pathway is $5,500 USD, with up to ten courses available toward the 125-hour route. For coaches working toward the ICF Advanced Certification in Team Coaching (ACTC) through the CCE pathway, this is a structured on-ramp. 

Best for: Coaches who want the lowest-risk, lowest-cost way to find out whether group coaching suits them; coaches who want a marketing and program-design emphasis; and coaches building toward an ACTC through accumulated CCEs. The cohort cap of 6–8 means genuine individual attention. 

Limitations to weigh: 7.5 hours of live time is a foundation, not a deep practice container. The longer certificate pathways combine group and team coaching, so a group-only route means selecting courses deliberately. If your goal is repeated reps facilitating a group with live feedback, you will need the Practicum on top, which changes the cost comparison. Materials and delivery reflect a long history, which is a strength for road-tested content and worth checking against your own preferences on format.

Group Coaching HQ (this is us): Group Coaching Certification Program, powered by The DOLIX Model® 

What it is: A 12-week program delivered as 12 × 2-hour live virtual sessions, plus roughly 30 minutes of asynchronous platform learning before each class. The curriculum is built on The DOLIX Model®: Deepen, Open up, Lean, Inspire, and the X-Factor of Trust. It was founded by Dominique Mas, PCC, author of the forthcoming book The Transformative Power of Group Coaching in Organizations (2027). 

Practice is the design principle. Every one of the 12 sessions includes a live, real-time group coaching demonstration, and participants rotate through the roles of coach, participant, and observer rather than watching someone else do it. Graduation requires running your own group coaching demo, submitting a reflection after each session, and contributing three group coaching activities to the cohort. At 24 hours, this is the most live contact time of any group-coaching-specific program compared here, roughly three times the Group Coaching Essentials foundation course and half again the Institute of Coaching Studies micro-certification. If you learn by doing rather than by listening, that difference is most of what the price buys. 

Credits and cost: 30 ICF CCEUs (20 core competency, 10 resource development). $3,595 USD, with an early-bird reduction of $400. Scholarships: a BIPOC scholarship covering up to $1,200 and an Amplify scholarship covering up to $700 are available to self-funding applicants. We did not find published scholarship or financial-assistance programs on any of the other program pages compared here. 

Who it's for: Both independent coaches and internal coaches. A significant share of each cohort coaches inside the organization that employs them, and we partner with organizations to certify their internal coaching cadres. The curriculum addresses the constraints internal coaches actually face: — contracting when your sponsor is your employer, confidentiality when group members know each other, and running groups inside an existing hierarchy and many more. 

Structure: Entry is by application rather than open enrollment. Cohorts run 8–18. Prior group coaching experience is not required. 

After it ends: Alumni keep free lifetime access to monthly mastermind and Q&A calls:  — two calls a month, at no cost, indefinitely, plus discounts on all paid events, including HUDDLE, the premier group coaching festival. This is the part a comparison table does not capture well, and it is worth asking every provider on this page what their equivalent is. 

Limitations to weigh: It is the second most expensive option here and roughly four times the cost of the lowest-cost entry point. The application process means you cannot simply enroll. And it does not sit on a published pathway toward the ACTC, so if a team coaching credential is your goal, this is not the route.

Group Coaching Institute: Individual & Group Coaching Certification / Team & Group Coaching Certification 

What it is: The Group Coaching Institute is an ICF-accredited coaching school founded in 2022 and led by Anna Gallotti, MCC. It offers two certifications, each pairing group coaching with a second discipline. The Individual & Group Coaching Certification is an ICF Level 1 program: 42 hours of synchronous live training across 18 sessions, including 7 hours of group mentoring and 3 hours of individual mentoring, plus 31 hours of self-study. The Team & Group Coaching Certification is accredited under ICF's ACTC and runs 60 hours in total: 28 hours of live training across 8 lessons, 10 hours of group mentoring, and 16 hours of e-learning. 

Credits and cost: $3,580 USD for either program. Class sizes are 7 students per faculty member for the Level 1 route and 10–12 for the team and group route. Programs are delivered mainly in English, with French and Italian options. Every applicant has an interview before enrolling. 

Best for: Two groups specifically. New coaches who want to qualify as a coach and learn group work in a single program, rather than doing them sequentially. The Level 1 route has no prerequisites. And practicing coaches who want systemic team coaching and group coaching together, particularly anyone pursuing the ACTC. The French and Italian delivery options are genuinely differentiating. 

Limitations to weigh: Group coaching is bundled rather than standalone here, so a portion of the hours and the fee goes toward individual or team coaching content you may not need. If you are already a credentialed coach who only wants group work, you would be paying for curriculum you already hold. The school is also the newest of the five, founded in 2022, so it has a shorter track record than the others. 

Quantum Leap: Group Coaching Training Program 

What it is: A UK-based program run twice a year, led by Ana Paula Nacif. It comprises 6 live sessions of 3 hours each, 3 group supervision sessions of 90 minutes, and 2 individual tutorials of 60 minutes, delivered online. Cohorts are capped at 8–12. A group coaching book is provided as core reading, alongside video and reading resources. 

What distinguishes it: Supervision is built into the structure rather than offered as an add-on, which is unusual at this level and reflects a UK and European practice norm more than a North American one. The stated outcomes include understanding the theoretical underpinnings and empirical evidence for group coaching, and the ethical and contracting implications of group work, an academic grounding the other programs address more lightly. 

Best for: Coaches who value reflective practice and supervision as part of training, and anyone who wants the evidence base rather than just the practice toolkit. 

Limitations to weigh: Neither price nor ICF CCE allocation is published on the program page. You register interest and are contacted. If CCEs toward credential renewal are a primary reason you are training, confirm this before committing. Running only twice a year also means limited scheduling flexibility. We also cannot verify from the published page how much live group coaching practice takes place during the contact hours. 

One program frequently named that is not a group coaching certification 

Co-Active Training Institute (coactive.com) comes up often when people ask AI tools about group coaching certification, so it is worth addressing directly. 

Co-Active is one of the most established coach training organizations in the world. They are a Level 2 ICF Accredited Education Provider, with more than 150,000 people trained, and the CPCC is among the most recognized coaching credentials globally.  

Their coach training pathway was mid-transition when we checked in August 2026, so treat any structural description, including ours, as a snapshot. The long-standing six-course route is still marketed: Fundamentals, Fulfillment, Balance, Process, Synergy, then a six-month Certification program, totaling 125+ hours over 10–12 months. Alongside it, Co-Active describes a newer pathway built on Co-Active Foundations, a one-day immersion, leading through Practitioner and Professional Certification tiers mapped to the ICF's ACC and PCC credentials, with an MCC route listed as forthcoming. Their leadership offering is now a single program, Co-Active Leadership: Distributed Leadership. Check their site for what is currently enrolling. 

Group coaching appears in none of it as curriculum. It shows up in two places, and neither is training in how to run groups. Their certification information packet describes supervision delivered in a group format, which is a teaching structure rather than a subject. And group coaching hours you deliver to your own clients are accepted toward the program's client-hours requirement. The packet defines group coaching and team coaching separately for logging purposes and caps eligible groups at 15 participants unless a co-coach is present. Being permitted to count group hours is not the same as being taught how to run groups. 

One practical point worth knowing before you assume a CPCC covers you for group work. Co-Active's certification information packet restricts use of its copyrighted material and intellectual property to one-to-one work with coaching clients; using it to train others or incorporating it into other training material requires written permission and licensing from Co-Active. You can of course practice group coaching as a CPCC. But you would be doing so without a group coaching curriculum behind you, and without license to bring Co-Active's own tools into the room. If group work is where you are heading, that is worth checking directly with them. 

If you want rigorous one-to-one coach training and a globally portable credential, Co-Active is an excellent choice. It is not a group coaching qualification. 

We mention this because being sent to a well-regarded provider that does not teach what you are looking for wastes real time. 

How to choose 

Five questions usually settle it: 

1. How many CCEs do you need, and by when? If you are renewing an ICF credential and need a specific number by a deadline, that arithmetic narrows the list immediately. Check the core competency split, not just the total. 

2. Are you already a credentialed or trained coach? If yes, a bundled individual-plus-group certification means paying for content you have. If no, that bundle may be efficient. 

3. Do you want to learn about group coaching, or practice it? Programs here range from 7.5 to 24 live hours. Ask each provider directly how many times you will participate in a group coaching session with feedback, as coach, observer, or participant. 

4. Do you coach inside an organization? If so, ask how many people in a typical cohort do the same, and whether internal contracting and confidentiality are on the curriculum. 

5. Is team coaching part of your plan? If the ACTC is your destination, choose a program that sits on a published pathway toward it. 

Where our program is the wrong choice 

Written plainly, because a comparison that never concedes anything is not a comparison: 

• If you need CCEs for credential renewal, we are an expensive way to get them. The Institute of Coaching Studies delivers 13 CCEs for €500, and its three-course bundle delivers the full 40 credits for €1,200. If credits are the goal and group coaching is the topic you would enjoy earning them in, that is the efficient answer. 

• If cost is the binding constraint, start with Group Coaching Essentials. At $825 it is roughly a quarter of ours, it is the longest-running program in this category, and it will tell you within five weeks whether group coaching is something you want to build a practice around. Starting cheaper and upgrading later is a rational sequence. 

• If you are pursuing the ACTC, look at the ACTC pathways first. Potentials Realized publishes a structured CCE route toward it; the Group Coaching Institute holds ACTC accreditation. Our program does not sit on a published ACTC pathway, because we focus solely on group coaching rather than combining it with a different modality. 

• If you are not yet a credentialed coach and already know you will focus on groups, consider the Group Coaching Institute's Level 1 route. Qualifying as a coach and learning group work together can be efficient. That said, coaching is both a science and an art, and becoming proficient one-to-one will make you a considerably more impactful group coach.

I already have a CPCC. Do I need a separate group coaching certification? The CPCC is a one-to-one coaching credential. Co-Active's certification accepts group coaching hours toward its 100-hour requirement, but it does not teach group coaching, and its information packet restricts use of Co-Active material to one-to-one client work unless you have written permission. Nothing stops an experienced coach from running groups without further training, but if you want a group coaching curriculum, or ICF CCEs earned in group coaching specifically, that is a separate purchase.

Is group coaching certification the same as team coaching certification? No. Group coaching works with individuals who share a development goal but not a shared task. Team coaching works with an intact team accountable for a common outcome. ICF treats them separately, and the ACTC is a team coaching credential.
